Storing *everything* in the Registry was one of the biggest mistakes MS ever made.

I've never gone along with the concept.  My applications use INI files in the application 
directory for all common settings and  files in   %AppData\Local\myAppName for user 
specific settings if necessary. 

Your History Registry folder is  used by IE. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/182569
