SSD will make an old machine positively snappy. (Note: It will usually cost about $40.00 to $50.00 to have a guy at the local computer store to do the backup and re-install...plus of course the price of the hardware.)

If you want you can always try to duel boot your system...of course this depends on the resources of the computer.
