There is satisfaction to be had in getting things to work that were
not working.  Power supplies are pretty inexpensive.  I'd start there.
But you are right that you might invest more money in parts than it
would take to replace it.  But maybe a good repair shop could have a
look for a fair price say $50 or so to diagnose what the problem is?
