[dba-Tech] Woe is me

I've done something to royally screw up my SQL Server installation, and
been screwing around for at least two weeks trying everything I could think
of to repair it, to no avail. I've uninstalled it then reinstalled it
several times, and it fails every time.
Have you ever tried to read the installation log file? Wow. It's -- at
least to this feeble mind -- incomprehensible.
The only other thing I can think of is to buy yet another laptop and start
over from scratch.
But before I do that, I thought I'd poll the gurus here and see if anyone
has suggestions.
