[dba-Tech] Help with Linux Fedora 36

Colleagues,

I have a friend with a serious problem that I am trying to resolve.

This friend has a computer set up for him by a fellow (named Roy) who is
not responsive to our efforts to reach him. My friend is not savvy about
his operating system. Roy set it up with two accounts, Roy and Paul.
From inside Paul, it is not possible to go to root. The command always
gets "permission denied" as a response.

I last worked with Fedora over ten years ago and do not have its
language in my head, but I am quick at relearning.

The problem is that Paul's printer died and we have purchased another -
HP ENVY 6452e - which was listed as being compatible with Fedora 36. The
HP software, however, declares not to support that operating system and
sends us to the Linux reference page. I've downloaded the hplipgui and
tried finding that printer in there - it is not listed.

Clearly, I need to get into root and download the appropriate Linux
package in order to install this printer. But, how? How do I break into
the Roy account and create a new super user password?

Does anybody in OT or TECH have an idea to help me?

Thanks,
T
