Hi Gustav -- Yes, no one knows what technology will "fire" in the near future I just noted I feel a bit "tired of custom MS technologies" - trying to make money here using a limited (but huge - .NET framework IS huge) set of MS technologies and to use as much as possible generally accepted software development technologies, practices and standards... BTW, I do plan to purchase Windows Phone 7/8 - if MS LightSwitch will be able (isn't it yet?) to prototype/develop Windows Phone 7/8 apps I would definitely try to use it... Thank you. -- Shamil P.S. ".NET Gadgeteer" and "3D printing" look very cool from here - imagine one will be able to design and to "3d print" "home hand made" custom gadgets in a few years: "Gadgeteer utilizes the .NET Micro Framework to make writing code for your device *as easy as* writing a desktop, Web or Windows Phone application." http://www.netmf.com/gadgeteer/about.html http://www.dotnetrocks.com/default.aspx?showNum=694 http://www.ghielectronics.com/catalog/category/265/ http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/projects/gadgeteer/ http://gadgeteer.codeplex.com/ 3d printing http://www.economist.com/node/18114327?Story_ID=18114327 -----Original Message----- From: dba-vb-bounces at databaseadvisors.com [mailto:dba-vb-bounces at databaseadvisors.com] On Behalf Of Gustav Brock Sent: 10 ???????? 2011 ?. 15:20 To: dba-vb at databaseadvisors.com Subject: Re: [dba-VB] Rapid Application Development: LightSwitch 2011 (nobeta) Hi Shamil No one knows, and so many smart opinions out there about what is "dead" or "hot". MS claims that Silverlight will remain a focus product but who knows? Neither Silverlight, LightSwitch, or Access for that matter, is the answer for everything, but I find LightSwitch to be much of that Access should have been. Most smartphone users will have an Android. I have a Windows Phone 7 and find it superior. /gustav >>> shamil at smsconsulting.spb.ru 10-09-2011 10:34 >>> Hi Gustav -- Thank you for your information. I personally do not plan to work (and even to play) with MS LightSwitch. I can be wrong - but as far as I have heard/read HTML5/CSS3/JavaScript will soon (in a few years?) make Adobe Flash and SilverLight(?) a kind of "obsolete" technologies: http://ntt.cc/2010/03/15/will-html5-css-javascript-really-be-flash-and-silve rlight-killer.html and iPad doesn't support Adobe Flash (does it support Silverlight?) - and according to the referred above article everybody will soon have an iPad :) Thank you. -- Shamil -----Original Message----- From: dba-vb-bounces at databaseadvisors.com [mailto:dba-vb-bounces at databaseadvisors.com] On Behalf Of Gustav Brock Sent: 5 ???????? 2011 ?. 20:42 To: dba-vb at databaseadvisors.com Subject: [dba-VB] Rapid Application Development: LightSwitch 2011 (no beta) Hi all I asked MAPS if Visual Studio LightSwitch 2011 (now trial and purchase-ware): http://www.microsoftstore.com/lightswitch will be included in the Microsoft Action Pack Development and Design Subscription for 2011/2012? No: Unfortunately Visual Studio LightSwitch 2011 will not be included in the Action Pack. Visual Sutdio LightSwitch 2011 is Available to Levels: Developer AA; VS Pro with MSDN (Retail); VS Premium with MSDN (MPN); BizSpark Admin; BizSpark; VS Ultimate with MSDN (VL); VS Premium with MSDN (VL); VS Pro with MSDN (VL); VS Premium with MSDN (Retail); VS Ultimate with MSDN (Retail); VS Ultimate with MSDN (MPN); MSDN AA Institution; VS Ultimate with MSDN (NFR FTE). /gustav >>> gustav at cactus.dk 03-04-2011 19:57 >>> Hi Shamil For a small project I recalled LightSwitch and wondered if it had moved anywhere. It has, and has even been labeled Go Live. I guess it means some kind of improved level of support. That took me a couple of minutes - and another couple to copy and paste the links and post these here. Then I browsed the development pages a little and people and the team seem quite active. But I still miss the time for testing ... /gustav _______________________________________________ dba-VB mailing list dba-VB at databaseadvisors.com http://databaseadvisors.com/mailman/listinfo/dba-vb http://www.databaseadvisors.com
