ME has a nasty habit of crashing when run for a long period of time.. I have a workstation here (ME) which I've been meaning to upgrade to 2k, just because I'm tiered of rebooting every 2 weeks. VPN connectivity provides simply a network connection into a VPN server. By logging on to the VPN it makes it as if you were on the network at work, not exactly your PC. You'd probably be able to network over to your PC (if it was left on). Remote Access to the PC as in Remote Control can be granted via a VPN connection using something like Terminal Services, but in reality your Terminal Service Connection is handled by your VPN server to your computer, thus the connection is not strictly from the Internet to your work PC but rather the internet to the server, that remote controls your PC. Another way to set up remote control access to your PC at work/home is to use a software such as VNC there are different flavors such as VNC, TightVNC, esVNC (my favorite and includes FTP capabilities), RealVNC and in development UltraVNC. Of all of them, the latter is the one that holds the most promise as they are working on using plugins that tap into API's that can use the hardware drivers form your video cards that can greatly improve screen refreshes. It still supports FTP capabilities. Of all the Remote control software out there (PcAnywhere, VNC, TS, etc..), GotoMyPC is one of the easiest to set up, administer, but is also not cheap, I forget what the monthly and yearly subscription cost are, but I guarantee that if you load it to you work pc, firewall or not, you WILL be able to connect directly to your PC using a secure connection.
